802.1x protocol comprises several steps:

• When a client tries to access a Wireless Network/ LAN network/ VPN network, the authenticator prompts it for login credentials
• The client identifies itself to the authenticator, which sends credential verification back to the RADIUS server
• The RADIUS server verifies the client’s credentials. If the verification provides positive results, the RADIUS server provides the authenticator with an encrypted access key
• Finally, the authenticator will use the encrypted access key to be able to securely transmit unicast session authentication keys to the client
